2nd national CME of ACOIN "Talk Ophtha at Shantiniketan" completed successfully jointly organised by ACOIN (Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India) and IROPA (Indian Railway Ophthalmic Physician Association) at Maharshi Niwas, Bolpur during Saturday and Sunday 28th February and 1st March 2015.

 

Prof. Sushanta Datta Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Visva Bharati inaugurated the CME. Dr. Shyam Sunder, Medical Director, B. R. Singh Railway Hospital graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. R. R. Sukul, President, ACOIN joined from Aligarh and presided the whole ceremony.

 

Dr. Md. Yasin, the ophthalmologist reputed for his knowledge and service to the humanity was felicitated for his selfless contribution in community eye service in this area of Bankura and Birbhum district of West Bengal.

 

The least discussed topic strabismus was highlighted in the academic session and one whole scientific session was dedicated to this super speciality. Total academic hour was 5 hours 30 mins in this CME.

 

A separate competitive session “Rapid Fire” was arranged for the post graduate trainees. The toppers were awarded with lump sum cash prizes of Rs. 1,500 for the 1st, Rs. 1,000/- for the 2nd and Rs. 500/- of appreciation prizes for the remaining 3 participants.

Mrs. Twisha Sarkar, wife of Dr. Sekhar Sarkar comtributed the whole amount of cash awards for the PGts.

 

Cultural evening displayed the tunes of Rabindra Sangeet and local Baul song. Smt. Nibedita Sengupta, teacher of Ananda Pathshala, Shantiniketan along with her associates served Rabindra Sangeet in the cultural evening.

 

Participation of more than 75 delegates made the programme memorable. Spouse and children were very happy with the Sonajhuri Gramin Hat and visit to Shantiniketan.
